Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVR/TAVI) has emerged as a promising alternative to surgical aortic valve replacement for high-risk and inoperable patients with symptomatic severe aortic stenosis.

Multislice computed tomography (MSCT) is considered as gold standard for precise assessment of aortic root dimensions, although MSCT has limitations. Based on 3D TEE data, TOMTEC’s 4D CARDIO-VIEW™ software allows precise assessment of aortic root geometry and offers potential advantages over MSCT. It is highly comparable to MSCT, minimizes complications after TAVI and is a less invasive option for patients, which cannot undergo MSCT, or when MSCT is not applicable.

Current studies showed that 3D measurements in 3D TEE optimizes the prosthesis sizing and minimizes the occurrence of post procedural complications like clinically pAR.


Based on 3D TEE data, TOMTEC’s 4D Cardio-View software is essential to improve prosthesis sizing prior to TAVI/TAVR. The same set of measurements as obtained with Cardiac CT can be derived based on perfectly aligned multi-planar cross sections of the aortic valve annulus with 3D ultrasound. TOMTEC’s land mark navigation enables the user to define the hinge points of all 3 leaflets and automatically displays the corresponding cross section to precisely measure the diameter, perimeter and area of the basal ring.
