TOMTEC and COVID-19!

Together we can cope with COVID-19!

The expertise, engagement and personal effort of healthcare providers around the globe is the strongest weapon against COVID-19. These days healthcare professionals need to rely even more on innovative and reliable software solutions. Our team is perfectly prepared to offer remote services and support even in times of crises. Rest assured that we take our responsibility very serious.

Excellent care despite physical distancing

TOMTEC, a major provider of ultrasound software solutions, is committed to continue its operations with the dedication and passion to support you at all means. We understand that it is more important than ever to ensure smooth operations of your medical environment.
We are used to implement our software, service our system and train clinical staff remotely. We can therefore ensure you to maintain our service and response times at levels prior to the crisis.

The Corona Virus and its consequences for our social life, our societies and our healthcare systems are so dynamic that we need to adjust our response every day.

Keeping a safe distance, while providing adequate patient care, requires the adoption to new ways of working: The need to reduce exposure to potential infections to an absolute minimum to prevent the virus from spreading, requires new tools in our daily medical life!
Web-based diagnostic solutions allow access to medical data from different devices and web-browsers, enabling you to work safer and collaborate easier. Stretched clinical personnel drives the need to work closer together, even beyond the boundaries of healthcare facilities.
TOMTEC ZERO can help manage your echo cases over the web-browser and collaborate with other experts.

Important information for echocardiography

In which way does COVID-19 affect cardiologists? What is important to know and how can cardiologists protect themselves? Echocardiography in times of COVID-19

As far as global scientists and medical doctors know COVID-19 not only affects the respiratory tract but also the heart. That is why performing additional cardiac diagnostics in COVID-19 patients is so important. Echocardiography plays an even more important role these days – but is risky for the people performing the ultrasound scan.

The German society of Cardiology (DGK) for example published an open letter and pointed out: “The experiences with influenza we have been collecting over decades show that respiratory diseases comes along with an erratic rise of life threatening heart diseases – not only with the acute coronary syndrome.”

The American College of Cardiology (ACC) is getting more concrete. In an ACC Clinical Bulletin the society informed that in a recent case report on 138 hospitalized COVID-19 patients, 16.7% of patients developed arrhythmia and 7.2% experienced acute cardiac injury in addition to other COVID-19 related complications. Moreover, published and anecdotal reports indicate cases of acute onset heart failure, myocardial infarction, myocarditis and cardiac arrest.

Risks and how TOMTEC software can help reduce them
To examine infected patients poses a risk for everybody involved in the medical treatment process. The American society of Echocardiography (ASE) therefore published guidelines on protection of patients and echocardiography service providers during the Corona virus outbreak.

Professionals performing echocardiograms on patients with or with suspected COVID-19, will be exposed to SARS-CoV-2. But there are several factors that can minimize the risk of infection –TOMTEC software supports professionals in their efforts to minimize exposure.

The ASE for example emphasizes the importance where image acquisition takes place. The portability of echocardiography is critical, as COVID-19 patients can be examined in isolation rooms and are not mixed up with other patients. TOMTEC can support the mobile workflow and make it not only more comfortable but also safer. All measurements as well as diagnosis and report generation can be performed at a different location away from the examination room.  Due to the possibility to digitally sent reports the examination itself could even take place at a different location.

And there is another advantage with TOMTEC: Critical measurements are highly automated and therefore results are more reproducible – which is important in terms of keeping diagnostic quality at a high level considering the inter- and intra-observer variability observed in echocardiograms. Performing measurements automatically also means time savings – another crucial factor.

We appreciate the relentless efforts you make to care for all patients. Without your sacrifices the world would be a different place. Please stay safe and let us know if there is anything we can do to help.
