EACTA Echo Course in Athens

TOMTEC demonstrates superior 3D functionality in a perioperative setting

“3D/4D in clinical practice: standing alone or taking over traditional 2D views?” – this was the main theme at this year’s Echo Course of the European Association of Cardiothoracic Anaesthesiology (EACTA) in Athens, Greece, in June.

Munich, Germany, 26 June 2018: the Munich-based company participated for the first time in the EACTA Echo Course in Athens. The event, which focused on perioperative use of ultrasound, targeted anaesthetists, surgeons and intensive care specialists.

A perioperative setting – more than any other clinical setting – requires sophisticated software packages as a valuable and effective tool for safe and better outcomes. Tomtec’s 3D solution passed the test as the participants of the workshop “3D dataset measurement for RV, LV and mitral valve with one universal platform” confirmed.

Dr. Chirojit Mukherjee, Medical Director of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care at Helios Cardiac Clinic in Karlsruhe, Germany, presented the advantages of LV und RV evaluation with TOMTEC. This advanced 3D software package offers a high degree of automation and can thus contribute immensely to clinical routine.

Dr Thomas Wendt, partner at Kardiocentrum Frankfurt am Main, Germany, shared his application knowledge by demonstrating the use of the 3D software for assessment of the mitral valves – an area with increasing importance.

In the workshop, TOMTEC went the extra mile and showed the advantages of 3D as compared to 2D: the team demonstrated that in a perioperative environment, 4D Echo can be highly relevant for the assessment of the left and right ventricle as well as the mitral valve.
