IHE Standards
IHE is an initiative by healthcare professionals and industry to improve the way computer systems (KIS, RIS, PACS, Modalities, Reporting Workstations, etc.) in healthcare share information.
IHE promotes the coordinated use of established standards such as DICOM and HL7 to address specific clinical needs in support of optimal patient care. Systems developed in accordance with IHE communicate with one another better, are easier to implement, and enable care providers to use information more effectively.
IHE provides a detailed implementation and testing process to promote the adoption of standards-based interoperability by vendors and users of healthcare information systems. The process culminates in the Connectathon, a weeklong interoperability-testing event.
More than 280 developers from all over Europe with more than 120 systems participate in this testing event.
TomTec as a founding member of IHE Germany participated in the Connectathons of 2005 and 2006, successfully testing the integration profile: Scheduled Workflow.
